Class 44 In a catch for doors, shutters and the like, the catch is provided with a bolt 1 which is pivoted in a cap 2 and provided with an arm 4 projecting from the cap and adapted to co-operate with a striking plate 5 attached to the door, shutter or the like frame, the bolt being biased by a compression spring 8 compressed between the cap and the bolt and extending more or less parallel to or at a small inclination to a side of the cap, which is secured against the door, shutter and the like, the reaction of the compression spring being applied to a pin 10 slidable along a guide track 11, which is formed in the bolt and has a closed end adjacent the pivot of the bolt extending substantially perpendicularly to a radius through the pivot 3 and extends thence away from the pivot along a curve convex relatively to the pivot to an open end, so that as the bolt rocks into its fastened position, the pin, slides outwards towards the open end of its guide track where it is restrained by the inside of the cap from leaving the guide track and wherein the line of force of the compression spring during said movement of the pin along its guide track passes from one side of the pivot of the bolt to the other side. As shown two pins and two guide tracks in the form of slots are provided, the pins being carried by a link 9 which is surrounded by the spring 8. The striking plate has two flanges 7, 12 the flange 7 being engaged by the arm 4 during the closing movement of the door, shutter or the like so that when the door, shutter or the like is closed the arm engages the space between the flanges; during the opening movement of the door, shutter or the like the arm is engaged by the flange 12 to pivot the bolt to disengage it from the space between the flanges.
