Abstract
689,907. Fuel-injection pumps. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 6, 1950 [March 4, 1949], No. 5644/50. Class 102 (i). In a multi-cylinder fuel-injection pump, each cylinder has a suction port 16 controlled by the plunger 6 and a spill port 20 connected to a common passage 21 that has connections 21' to grooves 22 that are in constant communication with ports 23 in a rotary valve 12. An axial bore 24 in the valve 12 connects the ports 23 to a radial port 25. The rotary valve is driven through pinions 10, 11, that also functions as a gear pump to feed the pump through a filter, and is surrounded by an adjustable sleeve 27 having ports 28 that connect the spill ports to atmosphere to terminate injection. The pump is fitted with a delivery valve 17 that has a cylindrical extension 19 that covers the spill port 20 during the suction stroke. The cylindrical portion 19 may be adjustable relatively to the conical seat of the valve to vary the time at which injection begins.
