Abstract

An alloy suitable for sealing to glass contains up to 0.2 per cent carbon, 10-30 per cent chromium, 0.1-10 per cent cobalt and the balance iron. It may also contain small quantities of one or more of the following: titanium, niobium, tantalum, aluminium, molybdenum, vanadium or tungsten. Two examples are given: (1) 0.07 per cent carbon, 0.42 per cent silicon, 0.67 per cent manganese, 21.14 per cent chromium, 2.2 per cent cobalt and the balance iron; (2) 0.09 per cent carbon, 0.3 per cent silicon, 0.7 per cent manganese, 17.0 per cent chromium, 1.8 per cent cobalt and the balance iron.
