688,565. Cutting-machines. ELEN, E., and CAPLAN, C. M. Sept. 26, 1951. [Sept. 28, 1950] No. 23775/50. Class 31 (i). In a rag stripping machine comprising a disc knife 1 rotatably mounted in a closed casing having a cutting gap 11 and a gap 13 for removing buttons, the casing comprises two parts of substantially circular shape detachably secured together, one part, 6, having an extension constituting a foot 7 provided with a flange 8 which is detachably secured to a bench 9 and being of hollow construction to accommodate a belt 10 which passes round a pulley 3 fixed to the knife and a driving pulley 18 arranged beneath the bench. The machine may be provided with a pivoted sharpener. A battery of machines may be used, the driving pulleys being fixed to a single shaft driven by a motor at one end. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), for cutting animal skins, the casing comprises a curved cutting gap the lower jaw of which is horn-shaped whereby tubular parts of skins may be slit.
