Abstract

844,450. Pinking-machines. KARA KOZESNICKE ZAVODY, NARODNI PODNIK. Nov. 20, 1956 [Feb. 27, 1956], No. 35411/56. Class 31 (1). A machine for pinking skins comprises means 31 for engaging the underside of a skin at spaced locations, means 28 for engaging the upper-side of the skin at the same locations, means 25 for pinking the skin between the locations, and means for moving the upper engaging means and the pinking means to-and-from the lower engaging means in such a manner that the upper engaging means abut the lower engaging means before the pinking means contact the skin. The pinking means consist of wedge-shaped knives 25 secured by screws 23 to a frame 20 which is carried on bearings 17, 18 slidably mounted on upright members 2, 2<SP>1</SP>. A carrier 30, disposed above the frame 20, is also mounted on bearings 34, 35 slidable on the members 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and carries presser pins 28 which are provided with shoulders 45 in engagement with resilient blocks 44. The pins pass through apertures in the frame 20 and are located directly above piercers 29 which are mounted on a frame 5 and project upwardly through a slot in a table 62. Vertical movement of the knives 25 and presser pins 28 is imparted by rods 13, 14 connected at one end to the bearings 17, 18 and at the other end to cranks 9, 10 mounted on a shaft 8. Springs 40, which are attached to the rods 13, 14, maintain the presserpin carrier 30 in contact with the knife frame 20 during the first part of the downward movement of the carrier and frame until the presser pins engage a skin which is disposed flesh side up on the piercers 29. The knives continue on their downward travel and cut the skin between the pins after which they, and the presser pins, return to their starting position. Since a pinking operation requires only one to-andfrom movement of the knives and pins, a singlerevolution clutch 51 is mounted on the shaft 8 and driven by gearing 48, 54 and a belt-driven pulley 56 from an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor 59. Operation of the clutch is by a handle 60 on a shaft 61 or may be by a togglelever, pedal or electric switch. A scale is provided on the table 62 to enable skins to be cut to known lengths.
