666,174. Holding 'tool for inserting valve cotters. HARMAN, G. April 22, 1949, No. 10696/49. Class 61 (ii). In a device for replacing split cotter rings on valve assemblies, comprising a base bar H bifurcated at J to engage the stem of a valve and a pair of spring closed jaw-carrying members A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> pivoted together at E, the pivot being slidable in a slot K in the bar, the jaws B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> are provided with pivoted levers C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> for retaining the cotters and allow them to be accurately positioned on the valve stem. The members A', A<SP>2</SP> are provided at their forward ends with downturned projections which slide on the sides of the bar H when the jaws are opened by retracting the pivot E in the slot K by finger operated means provided at the remote ends of the levers.
