Abstract

177,405. Liddiard, W. H. March 29, 1921. Broaching.-A cylindrical casing a has a tapered nose a<3> and is made integral with, or screwed to, a head a<1> provided with a stem a<2> which is screwed into the pulling-head of the machine. Within the casing is a movable head b to which are pivoted three jaws c, pressed apart by springs c<1>. The head may be moved by a handlever d and is pushed forward when free by a spring b<2>. When the headed shank is pressed in, the head is pressed back and the jaws open to allow the head e to pass within them, as shown in Fig. 2. When the pressure is released the head b is pressed forward by the spring b<2> on the lever, and as the jaws move into the nose a<3> they are closed behind the head e.
