Screwing die-heads. -In a die-head for screwing two or more dies are carried on longitudinal shafts and are rotated for opening and closing by a rotary ring engaging rocking pieces connected to the shafts. In the form shown, three dies a, d are carried on the projecting ends of shafts f, which have stop-collars f<2> and are inserted in the die-body from the front. Flats f<3> on the shafts are engaged by ,gaps l<2> in rocking pieces l, which have lugs l<3> passing into gaps in the rotary ring i. The rocking pieces are mounted in the die-body so as to prevent axial movement of the shafts, as shown in Fig. 2. The ring is provided with a catch j<4> so as to fix it to the die-body in the closed position. The catch is pivoted at j<2> and held in engaging position by a spring j<3>, but is disengaged by a moving part of the machine at the required time. The dies then open either due to contact between the work and dies, or, if necessary, to spring pressure. The ring i is fixed in position bv a ring h<2> which is provided with radial screws for engaging the dieblock, which is split at h so as to give a slight adjustment to the dies. The die-block is slidably connected by pins m<6> and slots m<5> to a shank m held in a lathe turret. A spring m<2> is provided between an adjustable abutment m<3> and the dieblock to facilitate starting of the screwing. According to the Provisional Specification, the ring i may be entirely hand-operated, the open and closed positions being fixed by a catch, and the dies may be let into the face of the die-holder.
