Abstract

Screwing; s c r e w i n g die - heads. - A selfcentring die - head with thread-determining mechanism suitable for use in hand or power machines has the dies operated by ribs C, Fig. 2, projecting from a cam-plate which also serves as a cover-plate and is retained by a nut H. For hand - operation, a spring plunger acting in conjunction with holes N<2> may be used for locating the closed and open positions. A groove N<1> leads the plunger to one of the holes. The following device used for power - actuated heads mav also be used for hand operation in place of the above. A screwed stud provided with a star-wheel head L, Fig. 4, passes through a slot J in the cam-plate and, on completion of the screwing, contacts with an adjustable stop 0, Fig. 4, which first unclamps the plate and then engages a pin on the projection G, Figs. 1 and 2, to rotate the cam-plate and open the dies. In the case of the hand-actuated machine shown in Fig. 4, reversal of the machine restores the setting. With a power-actuated machine, an automatic belt-shifter is required in addition. A fixed stop P, Fig. 5, on the cam-plate carries an adjustable screw P<1> co-operating with stops R, R<1> on the chaser head to determine the set position of the dies. Turning. - As applied for shouldering or cutting-off, the dies are replaced by turning- tools, and a spring is connected between the cam-plate and body to feed the tools during rotation.
