Abstract

523,999. Wrenches. FALK, S. L. E. Jan. 19, 1939, No. 1859. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1938. [Class 61 (iii)] A wrench has a fixed jaw integral with a handle, a movable jaw shiftable relatively to the fixed jaw elastic means for moving the movable jaw in a direction away from the fixed jaw, a spiral cam disc mounted on the handle and co-operating with a wedge shaped member on the movable jaw for preventing the movable jaw from moving in a direction away from the fixed jaw. A movable jaw 3 is mounted on a guideway 4 on a handle and is moved in a direction away from the jaw 2 which is integral with the handle 1 by a spring 5. A wedge shaped member 6 on the movable jaw engages with a cam 8, preferably in the form of a logarithmic spiral, pivoted on a pin 9 and moved in a a counter-clockwise direction by the spring 12. The working faces 7, 10 of the wedge shaped member and the cam may be roughened finely toothed or milled to increase the friction between them.
