Abstract

233,557. Lamar, D. H. July 7, 1924. Percussive haitd tools.-An electrically-operated hand tool for use in mining can be set to operate with or without twist as desired. For this purpose a ratchet-faced disc 33 with peripheral lugs 56 is held by a spring 36 against a ratchet face 37 on a guide block 32, the lugs engaging twist grooves 55 in the inner casing 11. In the position shown in Fig. 2, the twist mechanism does not operate, but by advancing the hammer piston 22 to the position shown in Fig. 3, and screwing in the set screw 53, the disc and guide block reciprocate with the piston. The reversals are effected by two solenoids 12, 13 excited alternately by means of a switch 41 with an inertia member 44 pivoted between contacts 42, 43. Air valves 27, 28 are provided.
