Abstract

118,698. Bunn, S. A., and Holliday, T. H. Sept. 21, 1917. Power hammers.-Relates to marking, eyeleting, and riveting apparatus of the type comprising a hammer head located within a sliding casing, a spring being located between the top of the casing and the head, and an abutment between the bottom of the head and the spindle carrying the type or tool, so that when the abutment is moved laterally by a projection on the casing on depressing the casing, the spring over the hammer head is suddenly allowed to expand and moves the head towards the tool-carrying spindle. The invention consists in forming the abutment as a member 20 having a passage through which the top of the spindle 24 carrying the tool can pass when in register, one end of the member being convex, as shown, to allow of its being pushed horizontally against the action of a spring 18, when it engages a ridge formed by the narrowing-down of the bore of the casing 5. Springs 16 of various strengths are supplied, and the compression of any one spring can be varied by an adjustable cap 6. The hammer may be hand, foot, or power operated.
