Abstract

Sliding - jaw wrenches; handles.-In adjustable wrenches and pipe grips of the type comprising a fixed jaw 2 carried by a member 1, and a movable jaw 2<a> terminating in a screwed stem 5 engaging an internally-screw-threaded sleeve 6, rotatably mounted on the member 1 by means of a cylindrical projection 7 on one part engaging in a recess in the other part, the parts are connected bv means of an expansible ring 10 engaging in grooves 9, 11 in the surfaces of the recess and projection. The ring 10 is preferably round in cross-section, the groove 11 being semi-circular and the groove 9 deep enough to contain the whole of the spring so that the sleeve 6 may be detached by an axial pull. A screw 12 in the end of the stem 5 limits the outward movement of the jaw 2<a>. In a modification, the member 1 has a projection engaging in a recess in the end of the sleeve 6.
