Abstract

269,366. Dorrance, D. W. June 28, 1926. Limbs, artificial.-A hand substitute comprises a pair of tongs 27, 28 pivoted at 29, 30 to a frame 24 which can be slid along a fixed shank 19 by a lever 45. Cam surfaces 38, 39 on the shank 19 engage with projections 41, 43 on the tongs so that as the latter are moved with the frame 24 they are caused to open and close. A. rubber band 54 keeps the tongs normally closed. The tips of the tongs are formed with grooved holes to receive the grooved stem 61 of a device 60, shown in Fig. 7, for enabling a knife &c. to .be held at any angle to the tongs. A second member 65 provided with a grooved stem 6'i may be inserted in an opening in the head of the stem 19 to receive the end of a chisel &c.
