Abstract

662,949. Cigarette-making machines. USINES DECOUFLE. Feb. 14, 1949 [Feb. 17, 1948; Feb. 8, 1949], Nos. 3978/49 and 3979/49. Class 130 In a continuous-rod machine, excess tobacco is delivered to a belt conveyer 6 to form a tobacco sliver, such that the cross section of the sliver at those places which correspond to the dales due to irregular tobacco delivery shall be at least equal to the section of the desired average weight, and the surplus tobacco is removed from the rod-forming grooves, e.g. by a pair of rotary cutting knives 15, 16, and preferably blown back by a nozzle 24 to the hopper from which the tobacco was originally distributed on the belt. The excess may be conveyed away by endless belts towards a guide which diverts the tobacco downwards to conveyers adapted to return the tobacco to the hopper. The size of the tobacco rod is adjusted by a screw 16 through a block 17 or by adjustable side plates. Alternative methods of removing the surplus tobacco comprise leaving a narrow slot above a circular groove and providing an inclined spiked roller for removing the tobacco extending through the slot, and a pair of reciprocating co-operating clipper cutters.
