Abstract
640,630. Cutting tobacco. MOLINS, D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Nov. 26, 1948, No. 30746. [Class 5(i)] A tobacco-cutting machine, of the type wherein a mass of leaves is compressed by convergent conveyers 1 and fed through a mouthpiece to be cut by knives which sweep across the mouthpiece, is characterized by the provision of a leaf shoot 2, 3 preceding the conveyers 1 and an elevator to feed the leaves to the upper end of the leaf shoot. As in Specification 588,129. the leaf shoot is substantially vertical and has a rear wall 3, reciprocated by a motor 4 through cranks. The elevator comprises spiked parallel bars 11, alternate bars being arranged to form a set and oscillated by eccentrics 6, 7. The bars operate in an inclined trough 14 closed at the top by a cover 15 leading into the leaf shoot. A spiked roller 16 sweeps back any excess of leaves which may accumulate at the head of the shoot.
