Class 130 [Also in Group VIII] In an apparatus for cutting strips from a wide band of material, of the type including slitting means which subdivide the band into narrow bands whose width is that of the required strips together with means for cutting the bands trans. versely into strips, the cut strips are fed, transversely to their former direction of movement through the apparatus, by one or more conveyor worms disposed side by side, the worm threads entering cavities in a feed table on which the strips are supported. As shewn in Fig. 2, in a machine for producing " filter tips " for cigarettes a web of material 1 is fed by rollers 7 past disc cutters 2, 3, and is then sheared transversely by shears 8, the cut-off strips being fed transversely by worms 10, 11, to the plug press 12 of a filter tip machine. The feed rollers 7 and the cutting mechanisms are driven by means of crank and ratchet mechanisms not shewn.
