Abstract

482,754. Slotting sheet material. TRABUC, A. Oct. 22,1936, No. 28733. [Classes 145 (i) and 145 (ii)] A machine for recessing or slotting sheet material, particularly cardboard for forming boxes, comprises rotary cutters driven at high speed independently of the rest of the machine, and each consisting of a circular cutting blade 25 combined with circular saws 15 of smaller diameter ; means for moving the cutters into and out of contact with the sheet material 21, which is fed at controlled velocity past them, so as to form slots or recesses of predetermined length ; and stationary counterpart members 27 coacting with the cutters. In the machine shown, the cutters are mounted on a shaft 12 which is moved vertically by cams a on a shaft 1 to move them into and out of engagement with the sheet 21, The cutters consist of a central knife-edged disc 25 projecting several tenths of a millimetre beyond the periphery of circular saws 15 on either side of it. The counterpart members 27 consist of sharp-edged steel blades carried by blocks 26 mounted on bars 30, and are adjusted so that the width of the gap between them corresponds to that of the cutter.
