Abstract
628,053. Rotary blade cutting-machine. BURGESS, A. F. (International Cellucotton Products Co.). May 2, 1947, No. 11882. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] An interfolding machine is constructed with improved means for feeding and cutting sheets of toilet &c. paper from a pair of webs 20, 22, Fig. 1, and directing the cut sheets to interfolding mechanism S of known kind, or to other known interfolders. The webs are first cut longitudinally by cutters 24, 25, and then transversely by rotary blades 30 on shafts 16, 17 coacting with anvil blocks 41 on rollers 18, 19. The cutting-blades 30, Fig. 4, are formed in sections held against outward movement by adjustable blocks 31, each section being held in place by a pair of adjustable cams 33, held in position by lock-nuts 36. The anvil blocks are also in sections, are of steel, and are held in place in grooves 40, Fig. 6, of the rollers 18, 19 by means of screws 42. The webs are not cut completely across, and are finally severed by means of tearing rollers 59, 60, Fig. 10, driven at the same angular speed as the feed rollers and tapes, but formed with raised parts 61 which have a greater speed and act to complete the cut when they engage the partially cut sheets.
