Abstract

549,341. Feeding cut tobacco. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. July 22, 1941. No. 9240. [Class 130] [Also in Group XVII] In apparatus for feeding cut tobacco, for example to cigarette-making or tobacco-packaging machines, in which tobacco is removed from a hopper 2 by a corded combing member such as a roller 5 or a belt, the tobacco is fed to the member 5 by a shaking or vibrating conveyor plate 4. The plate 4 is supported by flat springs 6 fixed to support bars, or by parallel levers, and is actuated by a connecting-rod 9 and an eccentric 11 on a shaft 12 which may be driven from a picker roller 16. A shield 13 is provided beneath the roller 5. Short tobacco tends to accumulate at the end of the plate 4 nearest the roller 5 and is removed by the carding of the roller and so becomes mixed with the other tobacco. The tobacco on the roller is tamped by a device 14 described in Specification 385,210. Tobacco is fed to the hopper by an oscillating flap 3 as described in Specification 370,640 and the feeding device may be constructed as in Specification 520,178. In a modification, the flap 3 is omitted and the plate 4 has a horizontal rearward extension. Specifications 394,809 and 549,397 also are referred to.
