932,323. Preparing fibres for spinning. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 18, 1959; Oct. 28, 1960], No. 38853/60. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). An arrangement of machines preparing fibres for spinning includes bale breaking devices and carding machines and means for transferring fibres from the bale breaking devices to the carding machines, including means for depositing fibres in a chamber in horizontal layers composed of fibres from successive bales and a rake conveyer in the chamber to remove approximately the same amount of fibres from each of the layers. In the preferred arrangement, bales 110 pass round an endless conveyer path, the bales being arranged according to proportions required in a blend. At bale disintegrating stations 108a-108d, shredder tools 121, Fig. 5, detach fibres from the bales so that the fibres may be passed forward by a stripper drum 133 to a conveyer feeding to a carding machine 2, Fig. 1. Between the stripper drums 133 and carding machines there may be interposed opening and cleaning apparatus and the fibres are supplied to the carding machine through a hopper feeder.
