Abstract

590,354. Cotton bale opening machines. FROST, W. Feb. 26, 1945, No. 4780. [Class 120 (i)] In a cotton bale opening machine employing several endless band conveyers, bales are passed from one conveyer to another over one or more revolving toothed cylinders, the teeth of which project slightly above the level of the bottoms of the bales, so that a thickness of cotton is beaten therefrom. As shown bales are fed backwards and forwards between lattice conveyers a, b along supporting bars c through which the teeth e of a high speed revolving toothed cylinder d project slightly. Cotton beaten off the bottom of each bale is detached from the cylinder teeth by fixed teeth f, g and' drops into a cotton receiving chamber h whence it is withrawn by suction through outlet i. Drive is supplied by reversible motor j. Mixing may be achieved by dealing simultaneously with several bales of different qualities, reversal of the drive being arranged to operate after all the bales have passed the toothed cylinders. The lattice conveyers may alternatively be arranged in a closed. path in conjunction with two or more toothed rollers, drive being continuous in one direction.
