Abstract

1,126,910. Thrashing machines. A. T. DEWAR and W. S. DEWAR [trading as DEWAR BROS.]. 14 June, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 26395/66. Heading A1F. Apparatus for stripping the side-shoots from sugar-cane stalks prior to their being planted comprises a frame carrying two horizontal rotary drums arranged one above the other and fitted with flexible beater members, the frame also carrying inlet and outlet shoots through which cane-stalks are fed between the drums for stripping. The drums are driven in opposite directions by a V-belt passing around pulleys on the drum-axles and a driving pulley on a motor mounted on the frame; an adjustable jockey pulley is also provided. The beater members comprise flat strips of nylon or other flexible belting and are fastened to each drum to extend substantially tangentially away from its surface. Each beater may comprise two superimposed strips which may be broken up by perforations and longitudinal slots.
