Abstract

528,330. Preparing fibres for spinning. ETRICH, I. May 3, 1939, No. 13271. Convention date, May 7, 1938. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] A combined machine for the treatment of long fibred material such as bast fibre stalks, comprises rippling, straightening, breaking and scutching machines arranged directly one after the other, the material lying transversely and being conveyed at a uniform speed during its entire passage through the machine. The feeding device A has a conveyer belt 2 with strips of spikes, and a distributer plate 3 operated by eccentrics 4. The spikes pass through the table 6 upon which the stalks are stacked transversely, and carry the stalks to the rippling machine B in which an endless belt 8 passes over pulleys 9, 91 and has a drum with rippling combs on each side of the belt. The straightening machine C has a table 11 with conveyer belts provided with pins which enter channelled rails 14 and which carry the stalks forward. The beater 13 of this machine has a stepped surface 18 and it undergoes a rapid short reciprocating movement which gradually moves the stalks until all the root ends are in line. The material then passes to a breaking machine D of three smooth rolls 21 and two pairs of fluted rollers 22, 23 ; the pairs are arranged in the form of an arrow, the point being situated in the line in which the stalks are clamped in the scutching machine.
