Abstract
311,539. Walker & Smith (Batley), Ltd., Smith, R. I., and Smith, F. April 28, 1928. Openers, cleaners, &c. ; feeding openers, cleaners, &c.-A machine, which can be used as a tenter hook willey in the wool trade or as a carding-machine in the curled hair trade comprises a main cylinder 4, Fig. 1, co-operating with toothed rollers 23, 24, feed rollers 17 and a breast 16, and a doffer 1 covered over its whole periphery with toothed cards or lags. A fly-comb 14 or rotary beater strips the material collected on the doffer. The doffer and the breast are driven at a slow rate of speed. The breast cylinder may be dispensed with. The doffer is driven through toothed reduction gearing by a belt from the main cylinder shaft 3. The shaft 3 drives a countershaft 10 by a belt 12. The fly-comb is operated by a belt 15 from this shaft, and the feed rollers 17 are driven by a second belt on the other side of the machine. A belt 18 driven from the shaft 3 and passing round a loose pulley 27 on the doffer shaft drives the rollers 24 and also the breast 16 through reducing gearing 20. The rollers 23 are driven by a chain from the upper feed roller.
