Abstract

843,631. Treating carder web; lap forming. INTERNATIONAL BANDAGE CO. SCHAFFHOUSE. Nov. 28,1956 [Nov. 28, 1955], No. 36361/56. Class102 (1). [Also in Groups VIII and XVII] A strip of wadding is produced continuously from a carded web 11 leaving a carding machine doffer 10 by continuously winding the web into a multi-layer lap 23 whilst simultaneously axially advancing the lap and continuously cutting a strip 26 of the full lap thickness from the leading edge of the lap and then longitudinally drawing the strip away. As shown, the lap is formed on a revolving drum 13 provided on its surface with endless conveyer belts 14 driven via variablespeed gearing'from the drum shaft so as to advance the lap axially and cause the web to wind helically. Cutters 24, 25 (see Group VIII) are spaced from the axially leading edge of the lap according to the desired width of strip 26 and are angularly set, about a vertical axis passing through the cutting point, according to the pitch of the web helix. The strip is forwarded by rollers 30 to packaging means (see Group XVII).
