Abstract
500,812. Producing fancy yarns. MIDDLEMOST, H. E. Sept. 29, 1937, No. 26318. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] In the production of fancy yarns by a method of the kind wherein flakes of material are deposited on a carded web before it is divided by the condenser tapes, a carded and condensed sliver of the flake material is fed intermittently on to the doffer, or on to an auxiliary doffer, the rotation of which acts to lay the slivers on its surface and, in conjunction with a stationary transverse blade, serves to tear off the portions of sliver from the stock. The flake slivers a b, Figs. 1 and 2, are fed from bobbins a<1>, b<1>, mounted on delivery rollers c, d and pass between guide pegs g on to the surface of an intermittently rotated card-clothed feed roller h by which they are carried down towards the surface of the doffer i<1> behind a bar or blade j. The flake slivers are laid in the correct circumferential lines on the doffer i<1> by a short endless presser apron k. When the feed ceases, continued rotation of the doffer and leather apron k act in conjunction with the blade j to tear off the fed portions from the stock which is held back by the feed roller h. The leather k is cleared by a card clothed roller m driven at a slightly higher surface speed. The guide pegs g and feed roller h are mounted in a frame r and the shaft n<1> of a toothed wheel n, which is mounted on the feed roller h, is attached thereto. The wheel n meshes with a lantern wheel o connected by gearing p with the shaft of the doffer i<1>. A pin s<1> projecting from a boss s fast on the shaft p<1> engages in the groove t<1> of a cam t driven by gearing u from the clearing roller m. As the cam t rotates the frame r is moved transversely between the feed periods and left stationary during the time the slivers are fed, the slivers thus being presented alternately over the tapes or rings of the doffer. To avoid reducing the thickness of the web and to place the flakes on the surface of the preformed web the ordinary doffer strips the web from the swift which is then transferred to an auxiliary doffer on which the flakes are deposited.
