Abstract
691,963. Stapling fibres and preparing slivers therefrom. GIRVAN, D. A. March 3, 1949 [Feb. 3. 1948], No. 3126/48. Class 120(iii) Apparatus for cutting fibres and forming continuous slivers comprises a supply roller 6, a first pair of feed rollers 7, 8, cutting means to give a diagonal cut to the sliver, and second and third pairs of feed rollers 12, 13, 14, 15, the distance between the second and third pairs of feed rollers. being less than the cut lengths of the sliver and the third pair of feed rollers. 14, 15 being driven at a slower speed than the second pair 12, 13; to ensure overlapping of successive cut lengths. The cutting means preferably consists of a pair of cutting rollers 9, 10 having helical co-operating blades, although scissors or guillotines may be used, if preferred. If necessary the sliver ends may be directed positively into the nip of the rollers 14, 15. From these rollers the fibres may be fed into a gill box, or some other type of drawing frame, such as a cotton drawing frame.
