Abstract

In a process for blending fibres preparatory to spinning, high quality cut "jute", i.e. long vegetable fibres, which is either uncarded or has been incompletely carded, e.g. to a condition in which carding or further carding will render it suitable for feeding to the first drawing frame of a spinning installation, and low quality "jute" cuttings, i.e. short fibres removed from butt ends, in a carded condition which may be similar to that of the long fibres, are separately and independently supplied to a fibre distributor (wherein some preblending may occur) thence, in the form of superposed and rolled webs on a feed sheet, to a card wherein the fibres are fully blended. Independently adjustable apparatuses for feeding the respective fibres comprise automatic feed hopper, doffer, periodically operated and controllable weigh box, horizontal conveyor and either multiple rolls or cans of sliver with letoff and/or feed rollers.
