Abstract

938,860. Feeding tobacco. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. June 2, 1960 [June 3, 1959], No. 19061/59. Class 130. A tobacco filler formed on a suction conveyer located in a channel 6 is fed towards rodforming mechanism 9 through a narrower channel 11 which deepens in the direction of movement of the conveyer so that the filler is compressed laterally over a progressively increasing depth. In Fig. 1 the filler is formed, as described in Specification 895,733, by tobacco particles fed upwardly through a passage 1 and held on the perforated conveyer 4 by suction maintained in a suction-box 5. Over the passage 1 the sides of the channel 6 are parallel or converging slightly downwards. The narrower passage 11, Fig. 3, begins at the left-hand wall of passage 1 and its sides, which may slope together slightly downwards, increase in depth to the position 10a where a trimmer 7 trims surplus tobacco from the lower side of the filler. In a modification, Fig. 4, the filler is formed by tobacco showered downwardly into a wide channel 22 above a suction conveyer 23, the filler then passing into a narrower, gradually deepening channel 26.
