955,169. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. D. W. MOLINS, and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Nov. 8, 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 40336/61. Heading A2C. Apparatus for filling cigarettes C into a hopper 19 comprises an overhead suction conveyer 3 extending over the width of the hopper and adapted to convey cigarettes in a direction transverse to their longitudinal axes, a stationary surface on the underside of a suction chamber 7 beneath which the lower run of the conveyer travels, openings 8-14 in the stationary surface and holes 15-18 in the conveyer such that a cigarette in a groove 6 of the conveyer and covering a hole or holes is maintained on the conveyer so long as the hole or holes and an opening are aligned and drops into the hopper when the hole or holes move out of line with the opening. The openings 8-14 are of different lengths and co-operate with the holes 15-18 respectively so that the cigarettes are dropped into the hopper 19 at different positions across its width.
