Abstract
711,343. Recovering tobacco from cigarettes. WEINER, J. W. Aug. 27, 1951 [Aug. 25, 1950], No. 21129/50. 'Class 130 Faulty cigarettes are fed, as at random by hand or from an inclined rotary drum (not shown), on to a turntable 1 having a surrounding guard 2 with an outlet 8 through which the cigarettes are passed in alignment under the action of centrifugal force on to a conveyer 13 which, after their co-action with a slitting knife 16 spaced from the outlet 8, delivers them as via a shoot 17 into means 18 which acts to separate the tobacco from the paper. As shown, the outlet 8, which is substantially tangential to the guard 2, is formed of converging side walls and has as its base the conveyer 13. To prevent more than one cigarette at a time passing out by the outlet 8, a guard roller 6 is provided adjacent thereto driven counter to the turntable 1 from a pulley 4 thereon by a crossed belt. The means 18 is an inclined revolving wire mesh cylinder containing rotary brushes 29, preferably of metal wire having a different frictional co-efficient from that of the wire mesh metal, the tobacco being pressed through the cylinder 18 into a receptacle 31 and the paper passing out of the lower end of the cylinder into a receptacle 32. The cylinder 18 is mounted on rollers 19, 20 and driven by a pulley 25. Specification 681,753 is referred to.
