994,759. Cigarette-making machines. ZAVODY V. I. LONINA NARODNI PODNIK. Aug. 22, 1963 [Nov. 19, 1962], No. 33344/63. Heading A2C. To form a tobacco filler tobacco is showered from a hopper 10 on to an endless perforated conveyer band 1 which is guided round pulleys 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to form a double U-shape. Suction is applied to the band 1 by a suction chamber 8. The tobacco filler is formed between guides 12 a groove in the pulley 2, and guides 16. A combed rake 17 trims the filler to a uniform height, surplus tobacco falling back into the hopper 10 via a shoot 18. The trimmed filler passes under a pressure chamber 19 on to a paper wrapper 34 on an endless conveyer 14. The chamber 19 is pivoted at 20 for cleaning purposes and the pulley 5 is mounted on a lever pivoted at 30 so that it can be latched by a latch 32 against the action of a spring 33 to facilitate removal of the band 1. The pulley 2 may be formed in two parts, also to assist in removal of the band 1. In an alternative arrangement, the chamber 8 extends only to the bottom of, and from the top of, the pulley 2 (Fig. 5, not shown). In a further arrangement the pulley 2 is replaced by two smaller pulleys which form the band 1 into a flat-bottomed U-shape (Fig. 6, not shown).
