Abstract

659,034. Rotary pipe joints. MONROE, R. O. Aug. 30, 1949, No. 22536. [Class 99(i)] A pipe 36 extends, with an all-round clearance, through an opening 14 in the end wall of a hollow body 12 and is supported for relative rotary movement with respect to the body by combined guide and bearing means, such as a bronze sleeve 56, and fluid-sealing members, which may comprise a bronze ring 46 carried by the pipe and interposed between carbon graphite rings 52, 66, are maintained in sealing engagement, as by a spring 62, while permitting relative floating movement between the pipe and body within the limits of the clearance. Rings 46, 52 may have co-operating, spherical sealing-surfaces 48, 50. In a modification a carbon graphite sleeve seals directly with the ring 46.
