Abstract

615,107. Bearings. SUPER OIL SEALS & GASKETS, Ltd., and RUDD, R. F. July 24, 1946, No. 22038. [Class 12 (i)] The cage of a ball or roller bearing comprises a resilient annular member of synthetic rubber or like material arranged to serve also as a seal. As shown, an annular synthetic rubber member d is inserted between the inner and outer race rings of a ball bearing assembly, the balls c of which being accommodated in circular holes e cut at the end of narrower slots f in the member d. At its closed face the member d completely seals the gap between the race rings preferably by means of a lip g which may be formed on one or both peripheries of the sealing member. For a roller bearing the holes are cut to conform to the shape of the rollers.
