Abstract

1,001,218. Bearings. DURKOPPWERKE A.G. July 7, 1964 [July 8, 1963], No. 27902/64. Heading F2A. A bearing having cylindrical rollers 7 has at least two guide-members fixed to the outer or inner race for locating the rollers and has at least one loose guide-member provided opposite a fixed guide-member; each guide-member having peripheral annular grooves therein to receive an expanding ring 8 which retains the assembled parts in position. In an embodiment, fixed guide-members 2, 3 are integral with the outer race 1 and loose guide-members 5, 6 are adjacent the inner race 4. The grooves in the members 2, 3 have a depth which is smaller than half the cross-sectional height of the ring 8; and the grooves in the members 5, 6 have a depth which is approximately the full crosssectional height of the ring 8 and have a width which is greater than that of the ring 8. The deep grooves may open into a peripheral channel 6a and may be provided in the fixed guide-members 2, 3, the shallow grooves then being in the loose guide-members 5, 6. In a modification, the expanding ring 8 is replaced by three split-rings 18, the splits being displaced so as to form a closed ring which, along with suitably shaped grooves in the guidemembers 2, 3, 5 and 6, provide a labyrinth seal.
