Abstract

1,223,549. Roller bearings. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 24 July, 1969, No. 37306/69. Heading F2A. A taper roller bearing has a race 14 which has a raceway 24 of tapered section and a frustoconical portion 26 of opposite taper to the raceway, a cage 18 being provided which has a first end ring 36 adjacent the frustoconical surface, and a second end ring 34 with cross-bars 38 extending between the two rings to form pockets in which tapered rollers 16 are located, means being provided protruding into the pockets, preventing radial movement of the rollers away from the raceway, and circumferentially spaced lugs 50 being provided on the first end-ring which have a tapered surface co-operating with the frusto-conical surface on the race to limit axial movement of the race away from the rollers. As illustrated, both races may be provided with a frusto-conical surface, and lugs may be provided on each end-ring. The cage is of resilient material in order to facilitate assembly.
