Abstract

1,175,109. Bearings; lubricating. W. SCHAEFFLER, and G. SCHAEFFLER. 7 Sept., 1967 [16 Sept., 1966], No. 40998/67. Heading F2A. A ball or roller thrust bearing has a cage provided with grooves in at least one of its side faces, the grooves extend from the radially inner edge, or from points close to the radially inner edge, to the radially outer edge of the cage and all the grooves are inclined in the same circumferential direction. In an embodiment grooves 4, Fig. 1, are provided in a cage I of a roller bearing and are each located intermediate rollers 3 which are received by sockets 2, and are each open at their ends. In other embodiments the grooves are arcuate, each groove intersects a socket, grooves provided on one side face of the cage are inclined in the same circumferential direction as grooves provided on the other side face, grooves provided on one side face of the cage are inclined in an opposite circumferential direction to grooves provided on the other side face, grooves 9, Fig. 5, become radial at the inner periphery 10 of the cage 1, and grooves 11, Fig. 6, are open towards the outer periphery of the cage only. In use lubricant is urged radially inwardly by the grooves, a circulation is maintained and the rollers are continuously lubricated..
