[Class 39(iii)] A high-frequency inductor comprises one or more hollow, water-cooled, inner coil 4 and an outer coil 3 lying in the same general plane and symmetrical with respect to a common axis X, Y parallel to which a metal workpiece 1 is moved. The diverging coil portions 9-12 effect a soaking heat which is followed by a localized heating to hardening temperature by a transverse portion 16 which may be nearer to the workpiece.
