Abstract

616,063. Induction heating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BAKER, W. F., SHEPHERD, J., and MARRIS, J. C. Dec. 3, 1946, No. 3432/47, (divided out of 35768/46), 3431/47 and 3433/47. [Class 39. (iii)] Metallic articles, such as hacksaw blades, and steel tubing are heated by induction at two spaced points simultaneously, to equalise the heating stresses in the article and thereby prevent distortion. In Fig. 1 channel shaped elements 2 and 3 of the heating coil are shaped to provide maximum heating of the toothed edge of the hacksaw blade 1 and also the back edge simultaneously. Similarly in Fig. 3 elements 20, 21 of the heating coil provide maximum heating along the seam 10 of the electric conduit 11 and along a line diametrically opposite to the seam. Various alternative arrangements of heating coils are shown.
