Abstract
657,246. Heating by electromagnetic induction. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 7,1949, No. 6160. Convention date, March 16, 1948. [Class 39(iii)] An electric inductor, for heating the surface of a moving metal work-piece 3, comprises at least two coils 1, 2 in a common plane substantially parallel with the said surface and with the coils extending transversely across the direction of travel of the work-piece. The coils may be of hair-pin shape arranged as shown in Fig. 2 or Fig. 4 and their closed ends 10 and 11 are preferably bent away from the work-piece as shown in Fig. 4. The coils may be connected in parallel and they may be hollow for the circulation of a cooling fluid.
