Abstract
714,488. Induction heating. DELAPENA & SON, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1951 [Nov. 30, 1950], No. 29325/50. Class 39 (3) An inductor comprises a hollow copper casing 9 in the form of a single turn loop of truncated pyramidal shape which is fed with high frequency power from feed-plates 12, 13, and contains ferrous alloy laminae 10. The casing is closed at the top by an insulating plate 18, and is supplied through pipes 21 with cooling liquid which flows between the upper ends of the laminae and outwardly from a pipe 22. The latter may include a connector 23 with a nozzle 23a for directing the coolant on to the workpiece which is arranged adjacent the lower end of the inductor. The laminae are insulated from each other, e.g. by mica laminae, and may be divided longitudinally into separate sections in order to reduce eddy current losses. The lower end of the inductor may be sealed by a sheet of mica or by an adhesive interposed between the laminae. Two such inductors with a modified cooling arrangement may be secured to each other so that their narrower ends face in opposite directions.
