A wire inductor coil 11 for heating workpieces having a diameter or greatest dimension at the surface required to be heated less than 12 mm. is externally wetted by a cooling agent prior to a heating operation. The high frequency generator terminals 1, 2 have bores 4, 5 to which liquid coolant is supplied via pipes 6, 7, and the inductor ends 9. 10 are secured in the bores by bolts 8. The coil may include a core 12.
