Abstract
501,903. Electric induction furnaces. HERAEUS - VACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.- GES., and ROHN, W. Sept. 5, 1938, No. 25947. [Class 39 (iii)] The windings of a coreless induction furnace consisting of quadrangular tubes a, Fig. 1, through which water flows, are fixed in position by securing to a layer of insulation e. The windings a are bored, tubes b are soldered in the bores, and bolts c are passed through the bores to be secured by bolts f. The surface of the insulating layer e may be cylindrical on the inside and plane on the outside, whilst insulation d may also be provided between the bolts c and the tubes d. In a modification, the tubes a, Fig. 4, are not bored but are secured by bolts c passing through distance pieces soldered between the windings a. The current is passed in parallel through adjacent windings a, and these are connected on the inside by copper strips h of thickness corresponding to the penetration depth of the current at the frequency at which the furnace is operated.
