Abstract

1365228 Induction heating USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 31 May 1972 [10 June 1971] 25546/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division B3] Left 10 and right handed 10a sections of a laminated iron core induction heater, Fig. 2, suitable for heating longitudinal corners of an elongate workpiece W have apertures 15, 16 formed therein through which tubular watercooled windings 22 are wound around a central leg 17 so as to be separated from the workpiece W by integral webs 18, 19. Polepieces 13, 14 are provided and additional water cooling by ducts 25, 24 may be provided. The ducts 24 may act as guides for the workpiece W or alternatively may be recessed into the core, Fig. 1 (not shown). The iron laminations may be interspersed with copper laminations to help cool the assembly. The heater is used in continuous casting apparatus to reheat the surface of the casting after initial quenchings.
