Abstract
1,162,113. Induction heating. JAMES ARCHDALE & CO. Ltd. 26 April, 1967 [2 May, 1966],No. 19185/66. Heading H5H. An intensifier for use in induction hardening of gear teeth comprises a pair of spaced magnetic core pieces 10, 11 secured together by a conductive, e.g. copper, casing 12 which is supplied with alternating current by liquid cooled tubes 14, 15. The casing 12 comprises a pair of loops 12b, 12c, extending around the core pieces 10, 11, connected by a strip 12a. The loops 12b, 12c are thus wound in opposite senses and connected in series so that flux generated in core pieces 10, 11 reinforce one another in the gap between the core pieces. Coolant is supplied to surface grooves 12d in loops 12b, 12c from tubes 14, 15. The gear tooth 13 is hardened by placing it in the gap between the core pieces. The side walls of the gap conform to the shape of the tooth 13. The core pieces are laminated as shown.
