Abstract

1,060,346. Magnet coils. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. July 26, 1965 [Sept. 11, 1964], No. 31698/65. Heading H1P. A liquid-cooled magnet coil, particularly for high-energy particle experiments or for a mass spectrometer, comprises two copper strips 20, 21 electrically connected together at their ends and separated by insulating cross pieces 22 which are secured to insulating strips 24, 25 running along the edges of the copper strips 20, 21 so as to form cooling liquid channels 26. The insulating members may be of polypropylene and the turns of the copper strips may be insulated from one another by double sheets 27 or polypropylene. Figs. 3, 5 (not shown) relate to aluminium bobbin construction having baffles between the cheeks and the ends of the winding so as to form passages for two-directional flow of demineralized cooling water.
