Abstract
843,460. Melting by induction heating. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A. G. Nov. 14, 1958 [Nov. 15, 1957], No. 36724/58. Class 39(3). High frequency induction heating apparatus for the zone melting of a semi-conductor rod 4 comprises a heating coil unit 5, 6 vertically movable on a spindle 7 and connected to a generator (not shown) by silver-plated copper tube conductors 9 which extend helicoidally from the base 3 of a vacuum vessel 2 ; the conductors 9 are liquid cooled and may be provided with spacer members, Fig. 2. A safety spark gap is provided near the coil 5. In Fig. 3, an alternative form of current supply means consists of a hollow conductor 11 spaced from a copper braiding conductor 12 by a double winding of polytetrafluoroethylene 13. Liquid flowing in the conductor 11 is returned through a tube 14 which is preferably soldered to the conductor 12 at least at intervals.
