Abstract
1,229,036. Gas blast switches; transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 27 June, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 35023/68. Headings H1N and H1T. Insulating or arc-extinguishing gas (e.g. SF 6 ), in a high voltage apparatus of the kind in which a switch or transformer is located in an enclosure (e.g. of metal) fixed to the upper end of a hollow tubular insulator, is heated by convection by a heater located at the foot of the insulator. A gas-blast switch (not shown) is located in a chamber 5 connected to a reservoir 1 by an insulator 2. A finned heater 7 is located beneath the end of the insulator 2 and heated gas is conducted into an inner tube 10 by a funnel 11. The tube 10 is of poor heat conducting and good electrically insulating material, e.g. of P.V.C. The funnel 11 is also insulating or heat insulated by a material 12. A current transformer (Fig. 3, not shown) is supported in the chamber (25) by a metal tube (22) located inside the insulator (26), the metal tube being insulated by a coating of the insulating material.
