Abstract

1,189,249. Mounting vacuum switches. ALLIS-CHALMERS MFG. CO. 6 Nov., 1968 [14 Nov., 1967], No. 52630/68. Heading H1N. One or more circuit breakers 14 (e.g. vacuum switches) are mounted within a tubular insulator 12 about which is mounted a current transformer 16, the transformer being supported from a base 20, so as to support the insulator, and an insulating operating member 70 extending from one end of the insulator 12 to the base 20. The centre part of the insulator is thickened and formed with grooves 26; the transformer is embedded in solid potting compound which fills the grooves 26 and thus locates the transformer rigidly. Metal end-plates 28, 30 are clamped to insulator 12 by rods 32 and one of them supports a vacuum switch 14 and an insulating casing 42 containing a linkage 66 coupled to operating rod 70 which is itself enclosed in an insulating tube 72. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), a second vacuum switch is supported by a plate gripped between the ends of lining tubes (88, 90) inside the insulator and operating by a rod (98).
